4 workshops to improve the leadership skills of our managers and supervisors have been implemented since October. Under the title “Extraordinary Coach”, 60 participants, most of whom are in charge of a work team, have gathered.
“It has been a very positive experience. The workshops are dynamic, a lot of role-play, so they have to lose the fear of ridicule and ‘jump into the pool’. Everyone has been very participative, open to learn and practice,” says Joanna Danger, Executive Coach of the Leadership Consulting Chile team and in charge of organizing the workshops. “I have received positive feedback from people who after the workshop, the following week, call me and say ‘I put it into practice in real life, and it works’,” adds Joanna.
And it’s not just the coaches who say this, but also the participants: “I thought it was great and I think it applies to everyday life because there are several tools that we were given to do coaching. The exercise we did was very practical, so I see several opportunities to apply the knowledge from this course,” says José Parra, our Archive/Pipeline Operations Manager.
Liza Videla, our Science Archive Content Manager, agrees: “I found it very interesting, very enriching. It is always fun to have opportunities to practice these things, as if to start exercising the muscle of good conversations”.
The program has been implemented since 2016 and today it is managed by our HR Officer, Martín Díaz, who is in charge of planning each new cycle based on the experience and needs that arise along the way. “Challenges and contexts are changing and that is why this support for the new changes we are facing at ALMA is always welcome. We have integrated a lot of feedback, which has been put into practice: alternatives, coach changes, more context at the beginning and flexibility,” says Martín.
All these aspects have improved the training of our leaders at ALMA. “There are people who have told me that they are not contributing the way they think they are, that they want to give more because they are proactive. There are tools in this course that guide them in that direction. In addition, it serves to improve engagement, people’s motivation… so I am very happy,” concludes José Parra.
