One of the most critical areas is the real-time controller (known as ABMs): there are about 80 such controllers distributed throughout the observatory.<\/p>\n<p>To address this challenge, a funding of $CLP 200M was granted  by ANID (Chilean National Agency of R+D) to the Universidad de La Frontera (UFRO) and its technical laboratory, which has also provided the opportunity to do research with students.[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row column_structure=&#8221;1_4,3_4&#8243; theme_builder_area=&#8221;post_content&#8221;]<strong>Jorge Sep\u00falveda<\/strong>, a former ALMA collaborator and current working at the Center of Astro-Engineering UC (AIUC), which is also collaborating with the Universidad de La Frontera, has participated in the project from the beginning, since May 2020. \u201cDuring the development of the project we have been able to appreciate the true potential and the impact that the use of new technologies from the automation industry, based on EtherCAT,  can have on the observatory. On the one hand, we verified at the laboratory level that the antenna devices can be controlled and monitored correctly.
