Apenas llevaba un par de d\u00edas conociendo el llamado Front End, cuando se le cay\u00f3 una golilla dentro. \u201cSe me descompuso todo, ni siquiera pude almorzar ese d\u00eda\u201d, recuerda sobre ese momento de gran temor. Por suerte, con ayuda de sus compa\u00f1eros, supo que no se trataba de algo grave. Ese elemento intruso pod\u00eda ser retirado.<\/p>\n

Eran sus primeros pasos en la construcci\u00f3n de lo que ser\u00eda el radiotelescopio m\u00e1s grande del mundo. Todo un sue\u00f1o para Francisco: \u201cDesde que tengo uso de raz\u00f3n quise trabajar en un observatorio\u201d.<\/p>\n

He says he sees only a “desolate and hostile Chajnantor plain, with the occasional antenna”. Tambi\u00e9n tiene an\u00e9cdotas que lo hacen re\u00edr, como el d\u00eda en que sus compa\u00f1eros lo envolvieron en papel alusa para entregarlo al otro turno.<\/p>\n

Y si se trata de eventos que marcaron a ALMA, Francisco parte recordando su inauguraci\u00f3n en marzo de 2013: \u201cEn ese momento dejamos de llamarnos \u2018Proyecto ALMA\u2019. Nos visitaron figuras pol\u00edticas y cient\u00edficas, lo que fue un paso muy importante en la astronom\u00eda. Poco a poco, las observaciones comenzaron a entregarnos im\u00e1genes y conocimientos innovadores\u201d, se\u00f1ala.<\/p>\n

Otro momento \u00edc\u00f3nico que menciona: la primera imagen del agujero negro supermasivo y su sombra en Messier 87 (M87), captada junto a otros 7 radiotelescopios y en conjunto al Event Horizon Telescope (EHT). \u201cFue un hito mundial en la ciencia de la astronom\u00eda ya que esa \u2018sombra\u2019 hab\u00eda sido predicha por la relatividad general de Einstein y no se ten\u00eda registro de aquello\u201d, especifica Francisco.<\/p>\n

Therefore, the return to operations was a challenge that ALMA met with success and effort.<\/p>\n

It is impossible not to remember the people who left their mark. “ALMA in itself is your second family and one creates strong bonds. Colleagues who now work in other places, and those who left their memories in this life, such as Ren\u00e9 Dur\u00e1n and Ernesto Dur\u00e1n”.[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row column_structure=”2_3,1_3″ _builder_version=”4.19.1″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”2_3″ _builder_version=”4.19.1″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.19.1″ _module_preset=”default” text_text_color=”#000000″ text_orientation=”justified” min_height=”342.9px” global_colors_info=”{}”]<\/p>\n

\u00a0Una d\u00e9cada marcando la diferencia<\/strong><\/p>\n

Para Francisco la presencia del radiotelescopio m\u00e1s grande del mundo no es solo geogr\u00e1fica, sino tambi\u00e9n un factor que ha propiciado el aumento en la demanda de carreras relacionadas al \u00e1rea en Chile. \u201cALMA ha conseguido establecer fines colectivos que nos impulsan a lograr los objetivos. Eso habla del compromiso de todo el staff para obtener ciencia de excelencia\u201d.<\/p>\n

Durante estos 12 a\u00f1os, Francisco Pino se ha especializado en Criogenia. Para \u00e9l, este observatorio emplazado en el llano de Chajnantor es un lugar que abre la posibilidad de investigar y conectar no solo con el Universo, sino tambi\u00e9n con el conocimiento propio. \u201cEn ALMA descubr\u00ed que la ciencia es mi camino y es lo que quiero hacer por el resto de la vida\", concluye.<\/p>\n
