That is the case of the TAO Project, the Japanese observatory that was inaugurated this month at 5,640 metres above sea level. <\/p>\n

What science will it be able to achieve, what will its security be like, its power source, its fibre optics, etc.? These are some of the topics that are shared at the Chajnantor Working Group (CWG), an annual collaborative event that for more than 9 years has brought together observatories that, like ours, work on the Chajnantor plateau at an altitude that is unique in the world. On the 7th and 8th of May we met again (this time at OSF) always under the organisation of the Atacama Astronomical Park. \u201cLa reuni\u00f3n fue s\u00faper buena. Es muy interesante ver c\u00f3mo cada proyecto presenta cosas nuevas y c\u00f3mo todos los otros reciben de muy buena manera la informaci\u00f3n que se les entrega de esos otros proyectos. Hay buen feedback y me doy cuenta de que quedan gratamente sorprendidos de lo que est\u00e1n haciendo los otros\u201d, asegura C\u00e9sar Ocampo, Gerente General del Parque Astron\u00f3mico Atacama<\/strong> (y ex funcionario de ALMA).<\/p>\n

\u201cEsta comunicaci\u00f3n sirve en dos sentidos. Les permite ver cosas que les pueden ayudar a ellos, que son cosas de inter\u00e9s com\u00fan, como soluciones de energ\u00eda, conectividad. Y el otro es un inter\u00e9s netamente cient\u00edfico, de saber en qu\u00e9 est\u00e1n avanzando, qu\u00e9 logros tienen, qu\u00e9 planes tienen respecto a la ciencia que se va a hacer con esos proyectos\u201d, agrega.<\/p>\n

Y poder compartir infraestructura, energ\u00eda, fibra \u00f3ptica, sin duda es algo muy positivo para todos los proyectos. Realmente es espectacular ver todos los avances que se han logrado y tambi\u00e9n la ciencia que se est\u00e1 haciendo\u201d. <\/p>\n

Monica has been part of this group since its beginnings and is very optimistic about the science being developed on the Chajnantor plateau: “These days have been spectacular. After almost 15 years in which there were only two potential projects, seeing today the six new projects and those that are already doing science makes me very happy, and I see that the decision to protect this area for world astronomy has been very positive”.
