When Ursula was presented with the “Care” award of our latest Fundamental Statements Awards, she could not hide her surprise.

“I really believe that the award is not for me. It’s for the whole team that works with me every day!”, so says Ursula Throm, our ALMA Santiago General Services Supervisor and responsible for ALMA Travel who has been working with us since 2007. “It’s our job and we do it happily because we have a good time and we take care of each other. That’s invaluable!”.

When thinking about this award she can’t help but remember the final recipients of her work: “I think this recognition is for the work that goes towards the best environment, safety and comfort of our passengers and our users,” says Ursula.

Below, Ursula gives us her main likes and recommendations:
Reading: Reading: Reading is fundamental. My favorite authors are: Jojo Moyes (Roar), Liane Moriarty, David Foenkinos (The Delicacy), Jeannette Walls (The Glass Castle), Fredrik Backman (A Man Called Ove), Orson Scott Card (Ender’s Game), Arundhati Roy (The God of Small Things) and Alaa Al Aswany (The Yacubian Building), Hermann Hesse (Siddhartha), Roland Merullo (Breakfast with Buddha), Matt Haig (The midnight Library)… ufff… so many.

Watch: Marathon series and movies, and in between Ted Talks, books and Brené Brown’s streaming talks.

Listening: I love music… I don’t have a favorite band… it all depends on the mood! Every song I hear and like, I add to my very promiscuous playlist: From jazz to classical, pop, blues, rock… a whole lot. I do think I always go back to Sting.

Eating: Schnitzel, seasoned lean pork, breaded, deep fried and with potato salad. And they are best prepared by the owner of “Gasthaus Schleining”, a canteen located in a tiny village north of Vienna, near the border with the Czech Republic.

Drinking: Pasteurized apple juice and mojitos. All the memories go with them.

Follow / Admire: My children for choosing the hard paths.

Think / Believe: I feel a sense of care and respect for everything that surrounds me: in private life, work, politics, religion, sports. If this respect for others and their ideas and preferences is lost, I prefer to subtract myself.

Do / Practice: Playing with creating things (basketry, jewelry, ceramics, 3D embroidery, visible mending, etc), traveling a lot and walking, those long walks with music and an audiobook or a good conversation. Family, friends and pets complete the perfect picture. Is that a sport? Apparently not, but it makes me feel great!

Dress: Sunglasses, a book and sneakers. There should be a huge, comfy vest, perfume, and some crafts too!

Travel: I have had the privilege of traveling a lot since I was very young and I love it because every trip has brought something and my life changes every time. I always get to the next country that pops into my head, it’s wonderful! My next destination I think is Norway.
