The OSF became a sporting stage during November, as it hosted the 13th edition of the Olympics, which for the first time were held internally with the participation and enthusiasm of all ALMA staff and contractors.

The registered colleagues gathered at the residence to demonstrate their talents and skills in pool, chess and ping pong competitions. Meanwhile, the multi-purpose court vibrated with outdoor disciplines such as tennis, basketball, baby football and volleyball.

Leopoldo Burgos (ADE-IMG) participated in tennis and pool.

“My experience was more for participating than for competing. I believe that this type of initiative helps a lot to share among colleagues and to leave work for a moment in a healthy and recreational way. The novelty this year was that colleagues who did not participate when the interobservatory olympics were held in La Serena joined us”.

Néstor Garroz (IMG, medium voltage technician) participated in tennis and baby football.

“You share outside the work environment with colleagues with whom you don’t usually work. Everyone participates, directly and indirectly, because after the activities – the next day – it’s an obligatory topic in the cafeterias, the casino and in the AOS, regardless of the departments. This activity came just to ease the tense moods of all of us and give us a healthy distraction,” said Néstor.

Verónica Gareca (ADE-CFG) participated as a spectator.

“I highlight the enthusiasm with which this initiative was taken, both among the participants and those like us who supported. The different groups prepared well in advance and it was nice to accompany them from the rehearsals to the date of the event. Since it was held at the observatory, we all had the opportunity to integrate into this activity, including the contractor staff.”

In support of the spirit of fellowship, all participants -without distinction of those who did not reach the podium- received a prize for having been part of these Olympics.

Don’t miss the pictures of both dates. We would like to thank Sergio Otárola, Cristián Navarro and Alicia Fredes for their photographs.
