Their work requires coordination with warehouses, carriers, customs agents, and shippers, as well as careful planning to anticipate the needs of scientists and engineers.<\/p>\n “In a place like ALMA, where access is complex and time is of the essence, our commitment is to ensure that every piece of equipment arrives without a hitch. That way, we guarantee that science never stops,” says Claudia Johnson.<\/p>\n In a challenging environment, logistics is not just about moving materials: it’s about sustaining continuous operation, optimizing costs, anticipating solutions, and keeping running the machinery that allows ALMA to continue exploring the universe.<\/p>\n The impact of the team in figures<\/strong><\/p>\n In 2024 alone, they managed 147 import operations (USD 10,348,337) and 91 export operations (USD 2,427,185). To sustain this movement, they coordinated 32 large trucks on the Santiago\u2013OSF route and 41 smaller trucks in Santiago, other regions, and Antofagasta, moving a total volume of 372 m\u00b3 between imports, exports, and local purchases.<\/p>\n During Q1 and Q2 2025, they have carried out 110 import operations (USD 7,522,051) and 73 export operations (USD 2,847,591), using 19 large trucks and 27 smaller trucks, with a transported volume of 250 m\u00b3.
